The Stormont Studio
This building holds the Gallery's Permanent Collection of fine art. It also hosts temporary exhibitions. The Permanent Collection represents paintings and prints from the 19th and 20th centuries, but there are also drawings, photographs, sculpture and some earlier works. The Studio also holds archive material of personal letters, texts and photographs belonmging to the Stormonts and Edward Burra.
The artists represented in the Collection are of regional and national importance, including painters Edward Burra and Paul Nash, both of whom lived in Rye, also Vanessa Bell, Gus Cummins RA, Jacob Epstein, Duncan Grant, Roger Hilton, Ivon Hitchens, LS Lowry, John Piper, Ceri Richards and Graham Sutherland. Printmakers include Sir Edward Ardizzone RA, Robert Austen, Eric Gill, Christopher Nevinson ARA, Giovanni Piranesi, Sir Frank Short PRE RA RI, and James Whistler.
Only a proportion of the holdings can be displayed at any one time and they are exhibited thematically in rotation. Items not shown can be viewed by arrangement on application to the Gallery Manager. Entry to the Stormont Studio is from 107 High Street, Rye (TN31 7JE) and is free.
