Rye Art Gallery Link

The Sussex Heritage Trust recently awarded one of its Public and Community Architecture Awards for 2011 (Sponsored by The Lady Joseph Foundation) to the extensions and refurbishment to the Rye Art Gallery, the bulk of which was completed this year. The “One Gallery” project links the two listed buildings with a new structure to provide six integrated exhibition spaces and much improved infrastructure.

Equalities Act

Rye Art Gallery will be applying the new provisions of the Equalities Act, which are applicable to the Trust. These came into force with effect from 1 October 2010. In due course any of the Trust's policies which are affected will be amended. The main elements are:

•The basic framework of protection against direct and indirect discrimination, harassment and victimisation in services and public functions; premises; work; education; associations, and transport.
•Changing the definition of gender reassignment, by removing the requirement for medical supervision.

Funding

IMG_3304.JPG

The Trustees were delighted that their August 2009 bid for funding from Rye Town and Rother District Councils was successful. Some £30K was allocated to enable the key parts of the development project to be completed. However, more funds would be welcome to provide some additional future improvements, such as new lighting, exhibition hanging and access improvements. All these aspirations remain in the standing strategic plan (available from the Chair Trustees). We welcome further donations from any source.

Sunday Opening Hours

Please note that Sunday opening hours for both the Easton Rooms and the Stormont (when an exhibition is mounted) will be open between 12pm and 4pm (continuously) only.
