Melanie graduated in Fashion Design 1980 and consequently worked in the Fashion Industry. She later gained a Fine Art (BA Hons) in painting 2008. She has exhibited widely in Kent and London. She now lives and works in Rye.
Her work explores segments of urban greenery, including the environments of Nature Reserves, Wildlife Sanctuaries, Forests and Wooded Areas. Flashes of colour and pattern influence her perception and the painting process. Observing then remembering scenes she translates the visual world into fiction from reality to capture the essence of the 'shutter moment', which she believes is a moment that stays with you in your memory for a reason. Her creative artworks strive to evoke enjoyment and interest of these innovative practises of the sustainable breathable areas which are so important in our communities. The result is an exciting style of lyrical abstract painting that creates a new visual dialogue to engage with.
