Matt Hardman was born in Blackpool in 1972 and studied a Fine Art degree in the North West before returning to Hastings. He also studied illustration at the University of Brighton. He is a member of the Rye Society of Artists and has exhibited his work throughout the UK.
His work is an alternative take on the contemporary gothic and is a celebration of the negative and the uneasy. Its graphic, structural and impressionistic style is complimented by a slight dream-like skew of his coastal environment. His pictures and paintings show glimpses of a world that has a dynamic style and atmosphere that sits a little off-kilter. It comes from his love of texture, illustration and the graphic but still retains its tradition in the gothic.
